Radio Caroline. The Great Radio Survivor

I first heard Radio Caroline as akid ,when I was taken on holiday to Leysdown holiday camp on The Isle of Sheppey in Kent. The Byrds were at number 1 with Mr Tambourine Man. I have tried to keep track of them ever since. In 1999  I discovered them broadcasting again ,via the hispasat as part of Canal Plus which is like the european equivalent of Sky. They then  later moved to the Astra Satellite as part of the Sky package. They have gone from strength to strength ever since  with a combination of internet and satellite broadcasting.

In these days of consumer driven ,computer generated playlist broadcasting, where supposed dj,s no longer even have to think about music , [they just play what the computer tells them to] Radio Caroline is like an Audio beacon for music lovers .The presenters choose the music or play requests for the listeners. It is such a pleasure to listen to, and bears no comparison whatsoever to the sad sad homogoenised INDUSTRY that independent radio in Britain has become. I stress the use of the word industry as I believe that , that is exactly what radio has become.

Making money , using radio as a tool, has become  an  industry that is more important than providing music and entertainment for the listener, with shareholders greed waving the stick.

Check out Pat Edison on Sunday, Monday and Thursday mornings from 10 -2

Johnny Lewis Saturday morning from 9-12

These two chaps are my personal favourites from the many excellent shows  presented on Radio Caroline.
